Historic Seaside Heights Carousel to be Auctioned Off

Casino Pier wants to make room for newer rides

Whether whole or piece-by-piece, the historic Seaside Heights carousel that made it through Superstorm Sandy at Casino Pier will be auctioned off if a buyer is not found soon, a report from the Star-Ledger said Monday.

The carousel, built in 1910 and delivered to Seaside Heights after a 1923 fire in its previous location in Burlington County, and complete with hand carvings, will be auctioned off in whole this fall at a New York auction house, the newspaper reported. The stated reason for retiring the carousel, Casino Pier management said, is that the company wants to make room for new attractions and the carousel takes up a lot of space on the already-crowded pier.

If a buyer is not found who wants the carousel as one whole ride, Casino Pier will auction it off piece-by-piece, the Star-Ledger report said.
