Route 35 businesses, homes on barrier island shutters as residents evacuate
Seaside Heights personnel repeated the same message as they drove through the barrier island, talking into the speakers: There is a mandatory evacuation.
In Seaside Park, emergency responders went door to door, distributing evacuation information. Notices were placed on doors, with directions to head to Toms River North for shelter.
Businesses and homes battened down with plywood and taped windows as the island came under mandatory evacuation.
