The Sun Sets on Winter

It's officially spring on March 20, and there's a "super moon" full moon tonight

We're saying goodbye to a long winter with some sped-up footage of last night's sun set.

Amid mild temperatures and calm winds, dusk at Windward Beach's pier in Brick Township was a pretty spot to catch the winter sun setting over Ocean County. Clouds were minimal and the sky was a powdery blue and bubble gum pink before giving way to the darkness over the serene waters of Kingfisher Cove.

Our footage begins just before 7 p.m. and shot a half hour time period for the sun to set.

Tonight's skies should be memorable not just for it setting on winter and bringing the first day of spring and its equinox, but also for a "super moon" — so dubbed because the full moon tonight will appear larger than it would normally look at its perigee in the sky.

Great spots to hit at dusk? The sun sets in the west, of course, so try the bayside of Ortley Beach to catch the evening sky over Barnegat Bay and mainland Toms River.
