Tornado Watch in Effect Through This Evening

The watch is in effect until 5 p.m. for southern New Jersey.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 5 p.m. Friday for the southern and central portions of the state, the National Weather Service announced Friday afternoon.

The Tornado Watch is among a line of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings throughout the area.

A Tornado Watch means conditions in the area are favorable for the development of a tornado.

The Tornado Watch was originally issued for Delaware and Maryland, but was expanded into New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania during the early afternoon.

All southern New Jersey counties are included in the watch, including all of Ocean, Atlantic, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Somerset counties. Residents of these areas are advised to seek shelter immediately.
