VIDEO: Township Asked to Go Pink for Awareness

Meridian Health representative visited the Township Council last week

Toms River has been asked to go pink in May to raise awareness for the importance of annual mammography screenings.

Meridian Health Director of Marketing Tria Deibert spoke before the Toms River Township Council last week to urge residents, businesses and officials to get involved.

"We really would love for Toms River to become 'Pink River' in the month of May," Deibert said.

The goal of the awareness effort is to encourage woman ages 40 and up to have breast cancer screenings, as well as to raise money to help the underprivileged have checks, according to Merdian Health.

"It's a worthy cause and I'm sure that we'll be able to do that," said Mayor Thomas Kelaher.
