A candle light vigil for Brandon Holt, the 6-year-old who was killed in an accidental shooting earlier this week, is planned for Friday at 9 p.m in downtown Toms River.
The vigil, a groundswell effort that has been gaining momentum through Facebook shares, is planned to begin after visitation services conclude at the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals in Toms River, which are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Organizers ask that those interested in participating in the vigil meet at the funeral home with candles. They will then march to Huddy Park.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, following visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., according to Holt’s obituary.
The community also has shown its support by placing purple ribbons along the entire length McCormick Drive, tied around trees and mailboxes in Holt's memory.
Holt was shot by a 4-year-old neighbor with a .22 caliber rifle obtained from inside the younger boy's home. The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.
