Waves And Wind, But Little Rain From Nor'Easter

Video: Sand becomes airborne, waves kicked up by the storm

The first nor'easter of the 2013 fall season caused some isolated, minor tidal flooding, but a lack of rainfall limited its effects for residents of Toms River's mainland and island sections on Thursday.

The most visible aspect of the storm: blowing sand near that painfully pelted those looking to catch a glimpse of the rough surf at Ortley Beach. Some of the sand ended up in the beach parking lot, and the surf was very rough, but even roads that commonly flood such as Route 35 were unremarkably damp – not flooded – on Thursday.

A coastal flood advisory remained in place until 5 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The surf was forecast to continue producing 6 to 9 foot waves.

The highest risk for road flooding from the storm will likely come with the Friday afternoon high tide in the back bay, the forecast said.
