Piney Power Author Explores Historical Sites in New Guide Book

The recently-published book, Discovering New Jersey's Pine Barrens serves as a guide to an assortment of historical sites

Local tour guide and author of Discovering New Jersey’s Pine Barrens Barnegat resident Cathy Antener is often asked "Where does the Jersey Devil live?" and other classic questions about how to best explore the giant swath of forest of the Pinelands.

The Pine Barrens, a region which stretches through most South Jersey counties to as far north as Jackson and Howell and east as Toms River, now has Antener's new guide book to locate some of its notable landmarks.

Antener's book, published earlier this year, serves as a guide to a vast assortment of historical sites, museums, events, festivals and even local restaurants and wineries located in the Pinelands, conveniently grouped together by location. She will discuss some of these sites at the library lecture.

“I’m often asked, ‘Where do I go to see the Pine Barrens,’ ‘How do I get there,’ ‘Where are the ghost towns,’ and even ‘Where does the Jersey Devil live?’” said Antener, who also owns the website, www.PineyPower.com. “When The History Press approached me to write this book, it seemed like the right thing to do.”

Antener will also be signing books on October 13 at The Pine Barrens Jamboree at Wells Mills Park in Waretown.

Antener said with so many popular Pineland-related festivities coming up in October, including the Chatsworth Cranberry Festival on October 20 and 21; the Batsto Country Living Fair on October 21 at Historic Batsto Village; and dozens of other hikes, canoe trips, talks and walks, it is a good time to pick up a guide to the all the wonders this area offers.
