Eyes of Spies: Women of the Civil War

NAACP Black History Month Celebration/ Eyes of Spies: Women of the Civil War: The Eyes of Spies program is part of the NAACP Black History Month Celebration and will be accompanied by a delicious soul food tasting and a dance performance by N’ Step, a student group from Toms River High School North. Food tasting begins at 12:00 noon. Eyes of Spies Program begins at 1:00 pm. Feb. 25, Ocean County Library-Toms River Branch. 

Into the den of wolves went southerner Elizabeth “Crazy Bet” Van Lew and her friend as well as her ex-slave Mary Elizabeth Bowser. Together, they gathered vital information for the Union right under the nose of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Join them for their stories of spying, their secrets and their adventure. Performed by Kati Beddow. Program will be followed by Q & A.
