Women's History Month Events at Ocean County College

March is Women’s History Month and Ocean County College is celebrating with a variety of events!  All programs will be held on the OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.  All events are open to the public.

Monday, March 5

 Speaker: Dr. Ali Botein-Furrevig, OCC Assistant Professor of English & Literature.  Topic: Our Golda: From Wisconsin to the Promised Land.  Location: Room 203, Bartlett Hall.  Time: 11:00 a.m.  

Speakers: OCC Instructors of English & Literature Heidi Sheridan and Lynn Kraemer-Siracusa.  Topic: Acceptance & Exile: Poetry of Shonagon & Akhmatova.  Location: Room 203, Bartlett Hall.  Time: 12:30 p.m.

Speaker: Francis Polk, OCC Provost of Off-Campus Programs.  Topic: The Woman who helped Establish The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  Location: Room 117, OCC Southern Education Center, Manahawkin. Time: 2:00 p.m.  

Friday, March 9

Speaker: Dr. Norma Betz, OCC Director of Financial Aid.  Topic: Dr. Betz will discuss her book, Dear John, about the life and letters of John and Abigail Adams.  Books will be available for purchase following the program.  Location: Room 203, Bartlett Hall.  Time: 12:30 p.m.

Speakers: Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford and Martial Arts Instructor Dr. Kum Sung, proprietor of Kum Sung Martial Arts in Toms River.  Topics: Self Defense for Women & Rape Prevention and Self-Defense Techniques Demonstration.  Location: Conference Rooms A & B, College Center/Bookstore Annex.Time: 11:30 a.m.   

Speaker  Suzanne Musolf, Owner of Benchmark Construction Services and 2011 Small Business Woman's Award Winner.  Topic: Ms. Musolf will speak about her experiences as a businesswoman.  Location: Room 203, Bartlett Hall. Time: 3:30 p.m.

Speaker: Author Debra Sharp.  Topic:  Ms. Sharp will discuss her book, Shattered, and how she reclaimed her life after she was a victim of violence.  Location: Solar Lounge, College Center. Time: 9:00 a.m.  

Speaker: Dr. Maysa Hayward, OCC Dean of E-Learning & Adjunct Faculty.  Topic: The Role of Egyptian Women in the Arab Spring.  Location: Room 203, Bartlett Hall. Time: 11:00 a.m.
