First Weekend of Summer Packs in Some Events

This weekend's events include Family Day, Volleyball, Yoga, and Movies on the beach

With the weekend weather still up in the air (in the 80s with possible scattered thunderstorms), Toms River is offering a variety of weekend options that hopefully the weather will hold out for.

Here are a few weekend goodies to attend.

1. On Friday, June 24, Toms River Township's Municipal Alliance kicks off the weekend by celebrating Family Day 2011 at the Department of Youth Services, at 1505 North Bay Ave from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The day’s focus is health, safety, and substance abuse prevention. There will be free games, crafts, activities, face painting, refreshments, health screenings and services available for parents and children.

Also consider visiting Seaside for a weekend full of events.

2. On Saturday and Sunday, Seaside Heights Beach (between the two piers) will host the Corona Light Wide Open Volleyball Tournament. The tournament is from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. both days and is free to all spectators.  To register as a participant visit www.coronalightwideopen.com. The deadline to register is Friday at 4 p.m.

3. Seaside Heights free movies on the beach are back and begin on Sunday. The movie begins at dusk. The movie is free and moviegoers will be seated on the beach. This week’s movies is Ferris Bueller’s Day off.

4. Beach Yoga will take place all weekend long at the Hiering Ave Beach Area. The cost for the event is $10. The event is sponsored by the Center for Health and Healing. Here are the times for Beach yoga.

Saturday, June 25, 7 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.
Sunday, June 26, 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m..
Monday, June 27, 8 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.
