With Thanksgiving right under our noses many of us are still in shock over the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. There have been numerous drives, benefits call stations rescues and the like. It's all been amazing. The human spirit sticks together. We have a common bond. I have heard many stories about trucks and supplies that have com up here to our area from other States. Now we have to focus on re-building. I also know many of us in this area were spared by the storm. Many only lost power for some time, some didn't lose power at all. Regardless of the amount of damage or lack of damage, we were ALL “hit” in some way shape or form by the terrible wrath of Hurricane Sandy. If you lost work, if you lost anything.....you were affected. If you didn't lose ANYTHING and gave of your time, finances, clothing, food.....you were affected.

I think back to my hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y. Didn't hear much about Brooklyn per say but I know Queens was hit hard. I know many parts of Manhattan were hit hard. Manhattan is one of my favorite places. I honestly believe I settled in here for the fact that I am so close to Manhattan. I had many times longed to move much further South. My love of the Jersey Shore and the closeness of Manhattan has kept me here. I went to school in Manhattan for a few years. Many memories.

I think back to my childhood town of Seaside. The entire town was wiped out with Hurricane Sandy. I lived directly on the boardwalk with a big picture window in our family room. It overlooked the boardwalk and the Ocean. I remember storms coming in so hard that they rattled the window. Many storms scared me as a young child. I can only imagine that scene during Hurricane Sandy. My heart goes out to all of us. We all lost something because of this storm. Now it is time for us to re-build.

We have our lives, our most precious gift. We have pulled together in many ways to help others. We must take time to reflect on the good things in our lives. This devastation can get you sick. It got many sick, including myself. Take a moment to find and do something positive. No matter what that is.

I stumbled across this video today...... As someone posted under it, “ It's heartbreaking but inspiring”. Now is the time we need to inspire each other, inspire ourselves.....

Give thanks for what you DO have. Give thanks to be able to help. Give thanks that we are strong enough to rebuild . Give thanks..........
