UPDATE: Driver of BMW That Caught Fire Saturday Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Heavy, rubbernecking delays are being reported on the roadway, north and south of Toms River

Kalyph Scott did not have a good day.

The 20-year-old Manchester Township resident's silver BMW caught on fire in the northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway near mile marker 93.8 around 11 a.m. this morning, State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said.

When a State Police officer arrived, Scott and a female companion were sitting in a car behind the fully-engulfed BMW. The officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the second vehicle, Grossman said.

"He was transported to the Holmdel station, charged with possession of marijuana and released," said Grossman.

The car fire caused heavy delays on both the northbound and southbound lanes this morning, as rubberneckers strained to get a look at the car.
