Man Robs Gas Station Apparently Using Water Pistol

A man using an apparent water pistol robbed the Jersey Gas station on Route 530 in Manchester on Wednesday, police said.

At 9:52 p.m., fhe gas attendant was sitting in the booth, closing for the evening, when the white male suspect emerged on foot from behind the gas station and entered the booth, police said.

The man brandished a handgun and said “give me the money," police said. The gas attendant fought back, and the two of them engaged in a struggle before the suspect fled the area on foot.

The gas attendant then ran out to Route 530 and flagged down a passing motorist, who called the police.  The gas attendant sustained minor injuries during the struggle with the suspect, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a dark blue or black T shirt, tan shorts with a dark colored belt and white sneakers.  The suspect covered his face with a pair of panty hose with the leg stockings still attached.

The suspect was last seen running to the rear of the gas station towards Station Road and Lake Road in the area of Whiting Shopping Center. The handgun is believed to be a water pistol, which was spray painted black based on broken pieces recovered at the scene.

Detective Adam Emmons of the Manchester Township Police Investigations Bureau is investigating the robbery with the assistance of the Manchester Township Police Patrol Bureau, Ocean County Sheriffs Criminalistics Investigation Unit and Sheriffs Officer Ted Wielichoski with his  K-9  Titan.

Anyone with information about this case who may have seen the suspect in the area of Spirits Liquors or walking in the Whiting area last night is urged to call Manchester Police at (732) 657-6111. The identity of person(s) with information to assist the investigation, will be kept confidential.
