Minor Injuries In Toms River School Bus Accident

Toms River Police are on the scene of a two vehicle accident that occurred just before 2 p.m. on Monday at Old Freehold Road and Imperato Court.

A Toms River Regional School Bus was traveling southbound on Old Freehold Road when it struck the rear of a 2004 Pontiac, said Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

Two students on the bus from Toms River Intermediate School were taken to Community Medical Center for minor injuries, said Mastronardy.

The driver of the Pontiac and two passengers were also transported to Community Medical Center for minor injuries.

Toms River school authorities were on scene to arrange transportation for the 18 students on the bus who were not injured, the chief said.

Old Freehold Road was closed for an hour between Chestnut Street and Walnut Street.

The accident is being investigated by Traffic Safety officer Mark Nater and Sergeant Chris Dudzik.

Looks like that bus driver gave that car a pretty hard shot! These bus drivers need to pay attention when they have kids on the bus!

must be nice to never have had and accident

the way I see some of these school buses going i'm glad I don't have any kids on them...for some reason the drivers think they are above the law and I never see the cops pulling them over for violations...and if you call the school districts and report it you only get the dispatcher and its never to be heard of again...

Like the article said, This is under investigation. Hold your nasty comments until the police have finished their job!! Everyone just jumps in with opinions without knowing the whole story .The driver of the bus is an excellent and safe driver who does care for the kids on her bus.

Perhaps the driver of the Pontiac stopped short not giving the bus driver ample time to react. Unless you were there perhaps we should refrain from the negative comments and be grateful there were no serious injuries.

When I was a kid, I walked to school - uphill - both ways.

and on the other side of that coin..maybe the bus was to close to have adequate time to stop
allyson December 09, 2013 at 06:42 PM
Like the article said Diane..... its under investigation!!!
Tom December 09, 2013 at 06:55 PM
I guess all the negative comments come fron people who have no idea how differnt driving a bus is. Much more difficult. Cant stop on a dime like a 2k lb car. Article dosent say the bus was at fault and more investigation needss to be done. There are 100+ tr bus drivers talking bad about them as a whole is very ignorant

LOL proud!!! My husband tells me this story at least once a year!!!
diane December 09, 2013 at 07:50 PM
who said I was even talking about toms river...it was a general statement..i said nothing negative about any drivers or districts..don't be so defensive unless u have reason to be
careless fills December 09, 2013 at 09:58 PM
you generally shouldn't run into anything or anyone in front of you no matter why they stop, unless they cut in front of you suddenly - the truth will eventually be revealed
Marynary December 10, 2013 at 09:46 AM
It appears that a lot of school bus drivers or their families read the Toms River Patch.
Tom December 11, 2013 at 04:57 PM
Dont be ignorant and there would be no reason to be deffensive. Generalizing is the same as stero typing. "The drivers think there above the law" Diane is this not a negative comment. Have you spoken with any bus drivers who can confirm that? Do you have an different internal source? Possibly a works cited page? anything? No? Is that not slander? Defamation? Are they both still against the law? Diane is it true that maybe its you think you are above the law?
Tom December 11, 2013 at 04:58 PM
The second part of that is sarcasm before someone get all vag sore over it
diane December 11, 2013 at 09:40 PM
I have to laugh at you Tom...sorry...but have you seen one word as a follow up to this accident cause I sure haven't....if you do please let me know...I love have articles always say things are under investigation then you never hear another word about it...hmmmmm ...makes you wonder doesn't it...
Tom December 12, 2013 at 04:39 PM
I havent. You know why? Its not a big deal. Accidents happen to everyone. Theres several everyday. A bus will be involved now and then especially cause most other drivers try to beat them to a turn so they dont get stuck behind.
diane December 21, 2013 at 05:03 PM
so did the driver of the bus get a ticket...or did anyone???? wheres the follow up...a school bus accident IS a big deal
