Toms River Man Admits He Sexually Abused Child On Video Stream

Rodford W. Brindley, 68, will be sentenced on Sept. 26 in federal court

A Toms River man admitted Tuesday that he sexually abused a 15-month-old boy and streamed the act over the Internet, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced in a news release.

Rodford W. Brindley, 68, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child before U.S. District Judge Joel A. Pisano in a federal court in Trenton, according to Fishman.

Brindley engaged in online chats with a person he believed was a parent living in Ohio—in reality he was connected with law enforcement officials from that state, Fishman said.

"On one occasion, Brindley engaged in sexually explicit conduct with an approximately 15-month-old child, whom he had in his care at his Toms River home, and streamed live video of that conduct over the Internet to Ohio undercover law enforcement officers," Fishman said in a statement.

The charge comes with a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to Fishman.

Brindley is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 26, Fishman said. He is represented by attorney William Cunningham of Brick.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in Ohio, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force participated in the investigation, Fishman said.

Representing the government is Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Muoio of the U.S. Attorney’s Trenton Office, according to Fishman.
