Job Search: Employment Demand is High for Home Healthcare Workers

Career Fair in Toms River on Feb. 16

The demand for healthcare workers continues to be strong amid an ongoing economic recession, and several local employers are hoping to fill that demand in a job fair on Thursday.

For the last ten years Guide Publications, a publishing company in Long Branch that specializes in recruitment, has sponsored and hosted Healthcare Career Fairs throughout New Jersey. This week, on Thursday Feb. 16, the Career Fair will be in Toms River at the Holiday Inn.

Mike Beson, the owner of Guideposts said that the Healthcare Career Fairs target all nursing professionals, but that the most in-demand positions of late are in the Home Healthcare Field.

The demand of Certified Home Health Aides has increased dramatically over the last few years as patients are leaning away from the traditional practice of staying in hospitals to seek care, said Cathy Mamola, the Director of Pediatrics at Bayada Home Health Care in Toms River.

“We have an urgent need,” Mamola said. “People are choosing to recover or remain in their homes instead of staying in facilities to receive care—and that includes children too. Many parents want their kids at home and not in a hospital environment.”

“We also see many RN’s moving towards Home Healthcare for a change of pace,” said Mamalo. “We offer training for the nurses that only previously have experience in a hospital environment.”

Although the demand is greatest in Home Healthcare, Registerd Nurses, LPNs, CNAs and those just out of nursing school are all encouraged to attend.

“Our fairs are more intimate than others so that the organizations and the job seekers have one on one time together,” said Beson.

Beson advises those attending the career fair to be prepared and bring your updated resume as interviews are often set up during the Fair. Also, he said, “dress professionally, smile and be patient--patience is really the key in this job market right now.”

The Healthcare Career Fair is being held at the Holiday Inn at 290 Route 37 East, Toms River, NJ 08753
on February 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
