JCP&L to Conduct Spring Vegetation Aerial Inspections

Residents may see low-flying helicopter

Haverfield Company will conduct JCP&L's annual Supervisory Vegetation Management Aerial Patrol this week in Toms River, township officials announced Wednesday, advising residents that they may notice a low-flying helicopter.

The regularly scheduled inspections take place each year generally between April and September and cover all transmission facilities system-wide, according to JCP&L.  The inspections will take place this week in Toms River, ending on Friday.

"Patrols consist of Transmission Forestry Supervision personnel that accompany the pilot in order to identify effectiveness of prior year's herbicide application and identification of any conditions warranting further inspection from the ground and/or corrective action," the company said in a statement.

According to the notice, the helicopter pilot will be in communication with any local airports when in their airspace. The helicopter will be flying at a speed of about 35 to 40 mph above or alongside the transmission lines, and may circle around for a closer inspection.

The helicopter scheduled for these patrols is a black helicopter with registration number N686F.

Residents who require additional details or would like additional information are being asked to contact their local area manager at JCP&L at 1-800-662-3115.
