Harrogate to Host Lifelong Learning Academy for Area Older Adults

Harrogate, a senior living community in Lakewood, is hosting a three-day Academy of Lifelong Learning series for area seniors. The community is partnering with Ocean County College to present three classes, designed for adults who are 55 and older.

The series starts on Monday, April 28, and runs through Wednesday, April 30. It will feature three highly accomplished guest speakers, and the classes feature topics relating to history, music, spirituality and health. Tickets to any, or all, events cost $60, and meals and refreshments will be served.

On Monday, Dr. Robert Hodges will speak on The War of 1812, covering the tension that caused the war and the major conflicts that occurred. Dr. Hodges has taught several courses at Ocean County College, particularly on the Revolutionary War. The next presentation will be on Tuesday, when David Marowitz discusses the birth, growth and impact of jazz music. Marowitz worked as a recorded arranger for big jazz bands, before working as a music teacher and band director for over 36 years. The final presentation will be taught by John Mercurio and will focus on how to live a more stress-free life and how stress affects the body. As a massage therapist, certified Reiki Master and workshop leader Mercurio will teach the group some powerful techniques to reduce stress levels.
