Toms River, NJ – July 31st, 2013 – Last Wednesday, special needs ambassadors from the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation (CVR) delivered a large donation of cleaning items, toiletries and food stuffs to Your Grandmother’s Cupboard in Toms River.  The donation was part of an ongoing effort by CVR to support the sustained relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

“When Sandy hit the Jersey Shore, our special needs participants at CVR were immediately ready to help with relief efforts.” said Russell Anderson, President/CEO of CVR.  “We converted our warehouse into a distribution center, processing items arriving from around the country and managing their delivery to the affected areas.  Our participants embraced the opportunity to be active contributors to the relief efforts. It gave them tremendous validation and a greater sense of connection to the community. Today our participants sorted, packed, loaded and delivered all of the items we donated with a smile on their face and it was just another reminder of the “can do” attitude they possess. Our participants truly are ambassadors of CVR and the special needs community in general.”

CVR’s mission is to help provide work skills and opportunities for people with special needs to generate self-esteem and independence. At their facilities in Eatontown and Toms River, CVR provides a myriad of job training skills and work-readiness coaching, as well as, job placement. In addition, CVR also employs many of its participants at its own professional production center.

“CVR prides itself on increasing the opportunities for the special needs community. Our participants are eager and ready to work.” said Kristen Robertori, Director of CVR-Toms River. “ I think that when people see our special needs ambassadors actively working to support a community cause, it makes it easier for someone to think about hiring them. “
