Sandy - Weekday Warriors

As a local Toms River resident, I have been itching to get over "the bridge".  While I may live "mainland" I consider the beaches mine.  I use Island State Park to Mantoloking beach's more September to May.  Its my quiet time and my time to find peace to conquer the world problems, oh, and run my dogs! 

I went into Ortley beach with SurfRiders, NJ. November 23 & 24th. They were, as far as I know, the first volunteers over there.  In 3 days they helped clear and clean out 85 homes.  I was amazed how well it worked and how many people, who were exhausted, confussed, overwhelmedd, just basically shell shocked.  I knew I had to do more.  I was allowed to post to SurfRiders for volunteers and was able to get, on Nov 29 & 30th, 18 people to help clear out damaged homes.  We did get 14 homes done.  Not as much as I had hoped, but still, a start in the right direction.

I think Ill blog my experiences.  We go back Dec 6th & 7th.
