Avalon Beaches: 'Cooler by a Mile'

Beautiful, natural coastline has handicap access, tennis courts and boat ramps

One of New Jersey's most affluent beach communities, the small town of Avalon sees its small population boom during the summer months with the promise of being "Cooler by a Mile."

Sharing Seven Mile Island, a barrier island off of the coast of Cape May County, with Stone Harbor, Avalon is a Southern New Jersey beach resort favorite for many visitors.

Beach fees for pre-season (beginning May 31) are  $21; season tag $26, Weekly beach fees: (Saturday-Saturday) $12, Daily $6

Lifeguard hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Handicap access: Ramp access to the boardwalk at 21st, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 27th, 29th, 30th and 32nd Streets. Ramps from boardwalk to the beach at 30th Street, to the beach at 8th & Avalon Avenue and to an observation platform and to the beach at 80th Street. Handicapped accessible bay front piers are located at 8th Street Pier at the bay side, 20th & 5th Avenue, 22nd & 6th Avenue, 23rd, 33rd,  37th, 53rd and 57th Streets.

Surfing beaches: 30th Street and 12th Street

Public boat ramps: 54th Street

Boardwalk hours for Bicycles: 5 a.m. - 10 a.m.

Boardwalk hours for roller blades: Not permitted.

Tennis Courts: 39th Street and 8th Street

Skateboard Parks: 29th and Boardwalk
