Boil Water Notice for Kettle Creek for Emergency Water Main Break

United Water crews repairing main break that began at 10 a.m.

A boil water notice remains in effect for a large area along Kettle Creek Road, in the Silverton and Green Island sections of Toms River this afternoon.

United Water issued a boil water notice at 10 a.m. and has not yet lifted the notice, due to an emergency water main break at 202 Kettle Creek Road, near Carter Street.

As of 5:20 p.m., crews from United Water had repaired the water main and were repairing the westbound side of the road, where the break happened,  in front of the Kettle Creek Marina.

Kettle Creek Road was down to one lane in the vicinity, with Toms River traffic police directing traffic through the area on an alternating basis. There are delays because there are no ways to detour around the affected portion of Kettle Creek Road.

The utility company warned customers east of Brand and Kettle Creek Roads may have no water, low water or discolored water. Forty streets in the residential neighborhood are in the boil water notice zone.

In a statement, United Water said crews were working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible and additional information will be provided as it becomes available. However, one resident of Kettle Creek told Patch the neighborhood received no notification of this event or a recent boil water notice as the area undergoes repairs to the water main. Work has been ongoing throughout the last week.

United Water classified the incident as an emergency water main break, not a scheduled shutdown due to the ongoing Green Island project.

For repairs scheduled earlier in the month, United Water said there will be water shutdowns for the area, and customers will be contacted by reverse 911 and/or notified door-to-door in advance of these service interruptions.

Today's unscheduled boil water notice is the second for the neighborhood of Kettle Creek. Oct. 20, United Water lifted a boil water notice for all customers on Anchorage and Channel Roads that began two days prior.
