Celebration of Words and Books on Saturday

BookFest! 2011 Comes to Toms River Library

Word lovers from all over are expected to meet in Toms River this weekend for BookFest! 2011 – the 10th annual celebration of words, books and reading to be held outside the main branch of the Ocean County Library on Saturday, September 24.

The annual celebration, now in its 10th year, will be held rain or shine. Dozens of authors and musicians are scheduled to appear at the outdoor festival which will feature talks by authors, book signings, arts and crafts, puppet shows, musical performances, dances and of course food by a number of food vendors.

Included among the authors slated to appear will be Toms River’s own Ricky Riccardi, jazz historian and author of “What a Wonderful World: The Magic of Louis Armstrong's Later Years;” Fran Capo, comedian, TV show host and author of “It Happened in New Jersey” and “Myths and Mysteries of New Jersey;” and Jeffrey Cohen, author of “The Asperger Parent: How to Raise a Child with Asperger Syndrome and Maintain Your Sense of Humor.”

Artie Bennett, author of the rhyming “The Butt Book,” will be on hand to entertain young and old alike. Library mascot, Sparks, will also be on hand.

Paranormal suspense author E.F. Watkins, Carlotta G. Holton – author of two works of horror fiction – and Barbara Solem-Stull, author of “Ghost Towns and Other Quirky Places of the Pine Barrens” should interest those who can’t wait for Halloween to come fast enough.

Musical acts will include Mr. Scott, the Music Man, specializing in his own unique brand of wacky, high-energy, warm-hearted music designed to get kids and families dancing in the aisles as well as the Basement Musicians Guild presenting its “Man in Black” tribute to Johnny Cash.

With military histories, romances, tales of inspiration, stories about New jersey and more, there should be a little something for just about everyone.

BookFest! 2011 is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the Ocean County Library’s Web site theoceancountylibrary.org or call (732) 349-6200 for more information.
