Chadwick Islands Green Water Safe for Consumption; Utility Awaiting Further Test Results

System was flushed yet discoloration remains

The source of green water coming into some Chadwick Island homes remains a mystery, though the area's water supplier said that it is safe to drink.

New Jersey American Water, which supplies water to the barrier island, received a complaint from one resident saying that his water is green, said External Affairs Manager Richard Barnes.

Barnes said that the company tested the water and "it does meet state and federal guidelines for consumption."

"It is safe to drink," he said.

According to the Asbury Park Press, other residents on Lauderdale Drive are also experiencing discolored water.

Iron in the system may be the cause of the discoloration, Barnes said. The utility took measures to try to correct the problem.

"We did a flush of the system to make sure there was no sediment," Barnes said.

Further testing on the water should be completed on Wednesday or Thursday, Barnes said, as the company is awaiting results from an out of state lab.

Any residents who experience discolored water are encouraged to contact American Water. Contact information is available online

"If we do hear a complaint, we do investigate it," Barnes said.
