County, Local Officials Investigate Attempted ATM Break In

Police are searching for a suspect they described as a white male in a black hooded jacket with white lettering, wearing dark jeans and a light-colored hat after he tried to break into a local market and pry open an ATM.

Toms River police responded to an alarm at the Whitesville Market at 3 AM on Saturday morning.

According to a security video, the suspect used a small tool to shatter the front door then attempted to pry open the ATM machine just inside the door. When the suspect was unsuccessful, he fled without any proceeds but caused more than $500 in damage.

Ofc. Eric Spiecker and Detective Scott Fry of the Ocean County Sheriffs Department are investigating.

The suspect may be operating a light-colored sedan, possibly an Infinity and may have been involved in other burglaries that occurred this morning in other Ocean County communities, police said.
