Flooding Over Route 571, Continued Road Closures of Major Artery with Route 527 and Manchester

Winding River, Cedar Glen, Surf and Stream campground and Pine Lake Park experienced flooding

Areas along the Toms River-Manchester border of Route 571 are a continued mess, with recent flooding, bridge damage and road closures adding a detour near Route 527.

Parts of Pine Lake Park experienced flooding, including the area near the historic clubhouse. Patch captured video of Pine Lake as it breached its dam and flooded nearby streets.

Flooding also caused officials to close the Route 571 bridge near the township's border with Toms River. As flood waters began to recede, a hole was visible near the northbound shoulder. County officials are expected to inspect the roadway when the water is gone.

The roadway is closed and drivers are being detoured northbound on Route 571 to Route 70 eastbound and then southbound on to Route 527. Traffic in the area was heavy Monday and yesterday.

Chief Brian Klimakowski provided Patch with photos he took Monday morning as he surveyed the flooding caused as the rivers rose in the wake of Hurricane Irene.

Late Sunday, some residents were  from Cedar Glen, a neighborhood located off of Route 571 near the township's border with Toms River.

Hours later early Monday morning, campers were told to leave the Surf and Stream campground about 400 feet away.

We were really hit hard on the entire east coast. How can people say this storm was nothing? Yes, some of us were very lucky, but my heart goes out to others that have lost so much.

Thank you for the video of the intact clubhouse in Pine Lake Park. My grandparents had a summer cottage just around the corner on 8th Ave, with a big wood-burning cooking stove, an oak icebox, an outdoor pump and and you walked back through a grape arbor to the outhouse. There was so much wooded area , mostly pine trees. I remember summers in the 50's like they were yesterday.
