LIGHTS OUT, POLICE IN: Route 37, Route 166 And Hooper A Mess

Police come out to help as traffic backs up a long way at Toms River's most notorious intersection

Traffic snaked around the jughandles Monday afternoon as police choreographed long traffic lines that dominated Toms River's most notorious interesections.

Cars and trucks made right turns in left-turn lanes, snuck through parking lots, went the wrong way down one-way roads and found ways around by any means necessary.

Despite the fact that Governor Christie and Jersey Central Power and Light said they expected power to be restored, lights were flickering - and, eventually, turned off - at the Crystal Diner and nearby intersection Monday afternoon.

"It's been on, it's been off, it's been on, it's been off," said Jackie Ramirez, a waitress at the Crystal Diner. "Oh well."

OMG! Why? They've all worked so hard to get it restored. I feel terrible for all these people. Hopefully it stays nice out and the nights not to cold. I'm sure their all out there working hard already.

how about they FIX the lights instead of just band-aiding them...Good Grief!!! This has been happening for 2 weeks, and this intersection is INSANE to start with!!! Not to mention that everyone in Toms River yesterday and today seem to have forgotten how to drive...PEOPLE, WE ARE ALL STRESSED, AND SOME DEFINITELY MORE THAN OTHERS, AND THE POLICE ARE WORKING HARD ON OTHER THINGS...FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD FOR YOUR SAFETY AND EVERYONE ELSE'S!!!

What happened to all the people that were suppose to go over the bridge to see their homes? Were they able to?

I volunteered at the FEMA center on Fischer by Umi, and I spoke with people who got into their homes in Lavallette, for the first time, and a woman from SSH. The Lavallette man said after seeing Rt #35 being two way, he realizes why it is how it is. Oh the stories. If you want to volunteer they probably won't turn you down.

Hope the food is thrown out from the diner. Nothing worse than iffy food. I should know, already been affected from another eatery of spoiled served food. JMO

Believe it or not, alot of these light controlled intersections that lost power were fixed using small gas powered generators chain to a tree or the control box themselves. When they run out of gas or most likely got stolen the traffic control lights go down.

nobody said the diner lost power.
