Local Events Honoring Women's History Month

Local libraries, colleges and community centers host events to honor Women's History Month.

Women’s History Tea: Join in at the Barnegat library for an afternoon of information and elegance as the life of Louisa May Alcott is presented by Pat Jordan from the American Historical Theatre. Co-sponsored with the Barnegat Recreation Department. Sponsored by Barnegat Library and the Barnegat Recreation Center. March 10 at 2 p.m. Call 609-698-3331 to register. 

Celebrate Women’s History Month with The Angeltones: The Angetones will celebrate Women's History Month with a concert featuring songs by the Shirelles, Supremes, Andrew Sisters and other female artists. Ocean County Library-Manchester Branch, March 20 at 7 p.m.

Stories from Africa: a preschool story time. A special Women’s History Month edition of story time for ages 3 and up. There will be hear stories about anthropologist, Jane Goodall and Nobel Prize winner, Wangari Maathai.  Ocean County Library-Barnegat Branch. March 22 at 1:30 p.m. Register by calling 609-698-3331.

Courageous Women Who Tended The Lights: As part of Women’s History Month, the New Jersey Lighthouse Society will share history and little known facts about the lighthouses of New Jersey and stories of the women who were given the task of keeping our coastlines and ships safe. Ocean County Library-Point Pleasant Branch. March 29 at 7 p.m.

Women’s History Month Display by OC Chapter of NOW at Ocean County Library-Toms River Branch: The Ocean County Chapter of the National Organization for Women will display T-shirts, buttons, jewelry, signs and other memorabilia from the women's movement in the glass case in front of the Wheeler Room on the second floor of the Ocean County Library (101 Washington St., Toms River) through March 30.

The Women’s Career & Life Event at Ocean County College: Becoming Fearless in Career & Life.  Speakers: Bernadette Amato, OCC Coordinator of Career Services; Virginia Watts, employed in the field of construction; and The Inspiration Guru Donna Cardillo, RN.  Topics: Being Fearless in Non-Traditional Employment and Becoming Fearless In Life & Career. Location: Solar Lounge, College Center.  March 31 at 8:30 a.m. Admission: $9 (includes refreshments and workshop materials); $6 for current OCC and Kean-Ocean students with valid student ID.  Registration is required.  RSVP by Friday, March 23 to 732-255-0400, ext. 2945.

Rosie the Riveter and Her Sisters: This theatrical presentation explores how women proved their capabilities by stepping into the places of the men who went to war. Ocean County Library-Lacey Branch. March 31 at 2 p.m.

Ocean County College Topic Speakers: Ocean County College is celebrating with a variety of events and guest speakers.  All programs will be held on the OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River.  All events are open to the public. All topic discussions are free and range from  “Choice, Love, & Passion: The Power of Women’s Voice” to “Women of the Civil War.”
