Man Charged In Ortley A&P Cash Theft

Alleged theft occurred Tuesday afternoon, according to police

A Seaside Heights man was charged with theft Tuesday afternoon after police said he took more than $600 from an Ortley Beach A&P cash register.

Brandon Myles, 26, of Franklin Avenue, allegedly stole the money from the supermarket around 1:30 p.m when completing a candy purchase, said Toms River Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.

Myles bought Mentos in the supermarket and allegedly told the clerk "I'll take that" when the cash drawer opened, Mastronardy said. He is then accused of running off with the cash in the direction of Seaside Heights.

Police located Myles within an hour on Kearny Avenue in the borough, but $160 of the missing money had already been spent, the chief said. He was arrested and transported to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $1,000 bail, no 10 percent option.

Myles posted bail on Tuesday, according to the county department of corrections.

The incident was investigated by Sgt. Chris Anderson and Detective Randy Petrick of the Toms River Police Department and Sgt. Thomas Yannacone from Seaside Heights, according to Mastronardy.
