Mo Hill Chosen Council President

Councilman replaces McGuckin who served as council president since 2004

Toms River, say hello to your new Council President.

Maurice "Mo" Hill was unanimously voted in tonight after former president Gregory McGuckin stepped down as he embarked an a campaign for state Assembly.

McGuckin, who will continue to serve as a regular council member, stepped down several weeks ago and Vice President Brian Kubiel stepped into the spot into the interim.

McGuckin nominated Hill as president.

"He has always been an excellent, excellent councilman," McGuckin said. "He's served on the council as long as I have, since Jan. 1, 2004."

Hill, saying it was only appropriate to make it his first act on a Flag Day, added a naval flag and marine flag to the tabletop national flag on the dais.

He was sworn in as the council president office by Mayor Thomas Kelaher.
