N.Y. Man Indicted in Stafford Heroin Death

Ocean County grand jury accuses man of causing drug-induced death of Navy veteran

A Staten Island, N.Y. man is charged with providing a deadly dose of heroin to a Stafford Township man that killed him in June of 2007.

An Ocean County grand jury is accusing Glenn Carrano, 26, of Pelton Avenue, Staten Island, with causing the drug-induced death of David Karol, 24, a Navy veteran and Manahawkin bus driver between May 25 and June 9, 2007 in Stafford Township and Camden.

The grand jury also accused Carrano of having and distributing heroin in Stafford on May 25, when he allegedly sold it to Karol. After using the drug Karol lapsed into a coma, was admitted to Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin, and transferred to Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he died June 9, 2007.

This week’s indictment supercedes one voted by another grand jury against Carrano in February of 2009. This week’s panel voted no bills of indictment against Carrano on charges of manslaughter and aggravated manslaughter, clearing him of those charges. He remains free on $100,000 bail.
