Police Investigating Hit-and-Run Accident Near Mapletree Road

16 year-old Toms River girl struck by motorist at intersection of Route 166 and Mapletree Road

A 16 year-old girl is recovering in Community Medical Center this morning, after being struck by a passing car while riding her bike in the area of Route 166 and Mapletree Road at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night, according to the Toms River Township Police Department.

"A 16 year-old girl from Toms River was traveling on a bike southbound on the east shoulder, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. The girl was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment," said Chief Michael Mastronardy.

The vehicle, believed to be a white or silver Nissan with some damage to the passenger side headlight area, left the scene traveling northbound. Mastronardy explained that anyone with information on the accident may contact Toms River Police at 732-349-0150.

"Traffic Safety Officer Brian Doyle is investigating the hit-and-run accident," said the chief.
