Route 571 Reopened Between Toms River, Manchester

Repairs made to road near bridge at the border of the two townships

Traveling between Toms River and Manchester on Route 571 just got easier.

The section of the county route between Route 527 and Commenwealth Boulevard near the Manchester-Toms River border was reopened this morning for the first time since Tuesday, when it was closed for major road surface repairs following Hurricane Irene.

The storm led to flooding that caused the surface of the roadway leading up to the bridge to cave in, closing a section of the two-lane road and forcing drivers to take a long detour.
