Original, 9 a.m.:
A fast-moving storm system is expected to send more damaging storms our way shortly, according to the National Weather Service. A severe weather watch has been put out for southern Ocean County for this morning.
A heavy thunderstorm began to pelt Toms River at around 9 a.m., turning on streetlights thanks to dark skies.
"There are storms developing basically from Western Connecticut to just southeast of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and they'll be in your area probably around 9 to 12 today," said meteorologist Walter Drag. "It could be strong thunderstorms; it could actually be severe thunderstorms."
Drag couldn't say if we should expect a repeat of with lightning striking homes, flash floods and more. But we should watch out for "damaging wind gusts" and possible hail, he said.
