Traffic Lights Out; Power Failure in Toms River

Toms River is experiencing sporadic power outages that are causing motorist delays due to traffic signals not functioning, police said.

Police officers are manually directing traffic at the intersections of Route 37 & Route 166, Route 37 & Peter Avenue, Cedar Grove Road & Clifton, and Lakehurst Road at the Garden State Parkway Exit ramp.

Drivers are urged to take alternate routes. Jersey Central Power and Light is aware of the problem and is working to restore the power.

The police department does not yet know how many homes and businesses are without power or what the duration of the outage is expected to be.

Police are asking residents to contact JCP&L rather than the department with concerns over the outage. Residents with concerns can call Jersey Central Power & Light directly at 1-888-544-4877
