Walnut Street School Teacher Receives 'Excellence in Education' Award

Raymond Roe receives prestigious award from local legislators

As Submitted by the 10th District Legislators:

Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Dave Wolfe and Greg McGuckin (all R-Ocean) presented the 14th Annual "Excellence in Education Award" during a ceremony recently at the Walnut Street Elementary School in Toms River to second grade teacher, Raymond Roe.

"Mr. Roe has established an admirable reputation at Walnut Street Elementary School where he excels in classroom management and supports his students learning in an enthusiastic and creative environment.  It is an honor to present the Fourteenth Annual Excellence in Education Award to such an outstanding educator," stated Senator Holzapfel.

The 10th District Legislators present the “Excellence in Education Award” annually to the elementary, middle school or high school teacher within the legislative district who best exemplifies commitment and dedication to classroom teaching.

"After reviewing Mr. Roe’s resume it is obvious that his commitment to teaching extends beyond the classroom.  He has dedicated many personal hours to the Science Curriculum Committee, writing workshops, ESL learning and bullying workshops. He is a devoted teacher and valued member of the Walnut Street Elementary School staff,” added Assemblyman Wolfe.

Since obtaining his undergraduate degree at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Elementary Education, Mr. Roe has been working toward his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Kean University.

"This award is presented each year to the teacher in our district who is a highly respected and valued member of their school district,” continued Assemblyman McGuckin.

“Mr. Roe has proven to go above and beyond for his students and parents while earning the admiration of his fellow colleagues.  He is a reflection of the outstanding level of education at the Toms River School District and the State of New Jersey.  We extend our sincere best wishes in all of his future endeavors."
