A Call to Action

“Ignorance is no longer ignorance once you know the facts; it now becomes a choice.”

Last Thursday night Dining for Dignity hosted its annual fundraising dinner titled “A Call to Action.”  Our goal was to highlight  the reality of domestic sex trafficking and incite the community to action.

Nearly 200 people took part in the evening’s agenda.   NJ Assistant Attorney General, Tracy Thompson, highlighted NJ’s strength in this national battle against trafficking.

Assistant Attorney General Thompson discussed the comprehensive legislation, which was passed in May in order to tether the furtherance of trafficking in our state.  More than that, she made clear that NJ is aggressively seeking after traffickers with a vengeance in order to see the victims set free and healed.   NJ is leading the country in the fight against trafficking and paving the way for other states to follow.

Throughout the night, Emcee, Pastor Mike Rosado - Fervent Church engaged the crowds with his wit and transparency.  Sharing from his heart, he encouraged everyone to get involved and respond with action to the call.

Following AAG Tracy Thompson, I, Kelly Master, had the opportunity to share about Dining for Dignity and Emerge – A.I.O. (Adult Industry Outreach.)  As typical for my character,  I charged forth with passion and fiery commitment detailing the realities of trafficking, social media, porn, adult industry and how they interconnect.

People were buzzing with excitement at the onset of the evening, but due to the intensity of the topics, there were times of complete silence.  As the Founder and Director of Dining for Dignity, I was overwhelmed with gratitude to see the community engaged.

As I looked around and realized there were pastors, business owners, teachers, doctors, mayors, housewives, students, business men and women, all at attention desiring to make a difference in their community.  They heard the clarion call; they heard the call to action;  and they wanted to take the next step.

In the words of American Anthropologist, Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world.”  Our goal from the genesis was to raise awareness, provoke action and create change.  Truly I am convinced this is the path that Dining for Dignity has been forging and more.   Although the reality of trafficking can be overwhelming; if each one of us does our part, the momentum will cause a great tsunami of shifting and change.  Never underestimate the power of your actions and inactions.
