Government Response to Sandy

The Town, State, and Federal Governments response to Sandy needs to be more truthful and let residents know whats really going on in the Barrier Island Towns.

For the past two weeks, The Jersey Shore has been trapped in time. Similar to the film  "Groundhog Day" we would wake up with the same thing, and go through the same events. The Barrier Islands these past two weeks have been sealed up about just as tight as a military base. And Acessing the islands is like a military base.....but why? The Politcians and Towns have been claiming due to potholes, downed power lines etc, which is without a doubt true. I believed it until i met a few suriviors who had just gotten rescued a few days ago. According to this survior (who demanded to remain anonymous), the true government response has yet to be told. While the cleanup crews are working around the clock on the Island, FEMA has officially gone into Search and Recovery (Searching for Deceased, instead of living). The death toll in Seaside Heights and the rest of the barrier island, according to the surivior, is much larger than what is being reported. Later in the week, I met with other suriviors who claimed the same thing, they also wished to remain anonymous. The fact that we have a government coverup on the Barrier Island right now is actually, quite disturbing. The Government Response to Hurricane Sandy showed we were completely unprepared for a storm of Sandy's Strength. For the past ten years, and then in 2005, the question of "What if a major hurricane struck the shore?" became a serious question. We're Prepared, we're ready, we were told, and last week we found out just how ready we were. We've exprienced tropical storms, and Hurricanes of a much weaker strength. Sandy, a Category 1 Hurricane, has been reported to have had Category 5 Strength when it made landfall in New Jersey. As we can see, the government was not ready for Sandy, and many had the mindset "Just another Irene.....", Irene, a Category 3 storm at its strength, was extreemly weak when it hit the shore in 2011, it did cause some damage in Northern NJ, but very little in South Jersey. Irene, Ike, and all the weaker storms before it, gave NJ the mindset that by the time a hurricane reached the state, it would be Weak, or a Tropical Storm, or in some cases, a Tropical Depression. Sandy prooved that we were wrong, and it alost exposed the Governements preparedness. While no government can fight Mother Nature, we should have been more prepared for the aftermath.
