Ferrante Crash Still Under Investigation

Toms River East alumnus loved playing lacrosse; family requests donations to teams as a way to honor Ferrante's memory

Pennsylvania state troopers continue to investigate the death of Toms River resident Nicholas Ferrante, 20, who in a single-vehicle traffic accident.

Officials from the Dunmore Barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police said this morning the accident is still under investigation, with no cause yet determining how or why Ferrante’s truck slammed into a left hand median of a Pennsylvania interstate near Marywood University, and flipped over at 3:43 a.m. April 10. Ferrante was a Marywood student athlete in his sophomore year.

He was also remembered this week as a at Toms River High School East, where he graduated in 2009. He held several school records for the sport, and was recalled dearly by his former coaches and team mates who described a vibrant young man full of hard work and smiles.

The lifelong resident of Toms River was born in West Long Branch in 1990, according to his obituary from Anderson and Campbell funeral home.

His family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, mourners consider a donation to two teams Ferrante loved to play on: the Raiders Boys Lacrosse team and the Maywood University Pacers Mens Lacrosse team.

“Nick was an amazing person, full of life, always knew how to put a smile on everyone's face. He was an All American Boy with big dreams and an even bigger heart. Nick loved attending Marywood University and playing lacrosse, it was his life,” reads his obituary.

Predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Walter Laskowski, he is survived by his parents, Michael and Francine Ferrante of Toms River; his two sisters, Melissa and Vanessa; his cherished nephew, Michael; his maternal grandmother, Frances Laskowski; and paternal grandparents, Mario and Candida Ferrante.

Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 14 and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday morning, April 15 at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 685 Hooper Ave., Toms River.

Cremation committal services will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Toms River East Boys Lacrosse Team, 1225 Raider Way, Toms River, NJ 08753 or Marywood University Men's Lacrosse Team, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509 in Nick Ferrante's memory.
