Toms River Centenarian Remembered As 'Loving and Giving' Person

Centenarian, Angelina  DiGiovanni Sciara, 101, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully from natural causes while surrounded by family on September 23, 2013. Angelina was born in Sicily and moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1956.  She then moved to Jackson, New Jersey in 1975, where she resided for 30 years before moving to Toms River.

Angelina is predeceased by her husband Angelo Sciara who passed away in 1978, her three sisters Stefana, Carmela, Luigina and three brothers Angelo, Jerome and Giuseppe. 

She is survived by a sister Maria Marca, four children , John Sciara and wife Josephine, Joe Sciara and wife Phyllis, Maria Sciara and husband Giuseppe, Caroline and late husband Vincent Servis. 

She has eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Angelina was recognized for offering outstanding senior services in her community.  She was a loving and giving person who could be found singing Italian songs, praying and baking her Italian cookies for everyone.  Angelina was always crocheting something for somebody. She wore her heart on her sleeve and her love for others was unquestionable. 

Angelina often sang a short verse of sentiment, stating, “I think I love you because you’re beautiful”. 

A graveside service was held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood, New Jersey.
