William E. Pelkey, 83, of Toms River

William E. Pelkey, 83, of Toms River died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Green Acres Manor, Toms River.  He was born in Wilmington, N.Y. and had resided in Howell and Jackson before moving to Toms River.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1960.

Mr. Pelkey was part owner of Jackson Glass Company, Jackson for 20 years before his retirement 15 years ago. Prior to that, he was employed at the A.&M. Karagheusian rug Mill, Freehold and as an automobile front end and brake mechanic.

He was a member and Past Commander of V.F.W. Post No. 4703, Jackson, a former member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold, a member of the Moose Lodge of Jackson; and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he was a sponsor and event speaker.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia Pulos and his second wife, Olga Pelkey.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Pelkey-Lawlor and Patrick Lawlor; five brothers, Edward Pelkey, Stanley Pelkey, George Pelkey, James Pelkey, and Gregory Pelkey two grandchildren, Sean and Caitlin; and three stepchildren, Patricia Allen and Edward and Robert Obierne.

The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Brigadier General William C.
