14% sales tax!

Did you know that you're paying a 14% sales tax on household water if you live in Toms River and the Holiday City section of Berkeley Township? 

Look at your United Water - Toms River bill.  The last paragraph under "Important Messages" mentions the little-known 14.0625% Gross Receipt and Franchise Taxes that go to the state.

Such taxes on electricity and gas were eliminated years ago, and they are not imposed on customers of municipal water and sewer companies.  Therefore, it's discriminatory.

This hidden sales tax has increased by 2/3 in the past decade.  It's a multi-million-dollar income stream for state government every year.

We don't pay sales tax on food, and water is just as much a necessity that should not be taxed.

A 14% sales tax is hard to swallow.  It's time for our state politicians to flush it down the drain!
