Does anyone agree that this state should drug test everyone who is receiving assistance from the government? During the super bowl interview with Obama, I was dumbfounded when he said since October, 6 MILLION people signed up for Medicaid. I don't know about you, but I "make too much money" to qualify for that, an I pay close to $1,000 a month for healthcare for my family. Not to mention, I know a WHOLE lot of people who receive assistance, work off the books, and sit home and do drugs and keep having children to use as a bigger paycheck. This is so annoying to me! What can WE as hard working tax payers in this town/state do to get some justice and make people get off their asses and actually WORK to feed their families, provide healthcare, and housing for themselves?! It's disgusting! I do understand that there are people who do actually need help to get on their feet again  and I agree with that. However, there's SO many people taking advantage everyday. Drug tests anyone?

How about an IQ test for Patch commenters like that? ------- How about reporting the fraudulent Medicaid recipients to the authorities instead of merely commenting?
Mac February 03, 2014 at 02:25 PM
@Sue - please don't lose sight of the fact that many commenters like that in Ocean County are strictly 'column A' voters
Gina February 03, 2014 at 03:06 PM
Sue you're the one that must need the IQ test. Our state pays for drug addicts to report to the Meth Clinic DAILY to get their dose.. You act like the state would give a shit if someone's boyfriend is sitting on the couch smoking weed all day while living off the state.. Report them or not - they won't kick them off assistance!
Gina February 03, 2014 at 03:06 PM
My point is it's thoroughly DISGUSTING how this government works
nancy February 03, 2014 at 03:43 PM
I've worked my whole life and whenever I switched from one job to another I had to take a drug test for money I worked for and earned, so I feel that if I have to be drug tested for working than anyone receiving free money from the state or federal government should have to be drug tested as well ....
Gina February 03, 2014 at 03:57 PM
My point exactly Nancy! Thank you

unfortunately as much of a crock of sh*t as the government assistance really is drug testing people wont do anything except waste more money. But in all reality its nobodies fault but the government that the system is abused because they have it set up to be that way. Once someone gets on the system it is nearly impossible to get off. As soon as you get a job making more than the allotted 140$ a month they give you, they cut off all of your assistance, and since nobody can live and pay rent, utilities, food, and all other expenses on 150$ a month they sit on their behind and keep collecting the assistance. I had hit a rough spot in my life and tried to apply for only rental assistance, that's all I wanted, none of the other welfare assistance, but they told me they don't offer that- I had to be eligible for everything or nothing. So pretty much I had to apply for welfare, foodstamps, medicaide, and rental assistance or I would end up homeless. I ended up getting accepted with all of the information I provided them and then after a few months they cut me off, said I failed to renew my application which was crap and then told me because I did not have receipts for my car insurance and cell phone I did not qualify anymore. The whole thing was crap. Because I was trying to get off of it, because I refused to apply for Disability and Section 8. Because I did not want to sit on my lazy behind and have children I could not take care of and suck off the state, I wanted a little bit of help until I got back on my feet. I was not entitled because I have a car and a phone. Whatever, my point is, these people that know how to manipulate the system will damn sure be able to manipulate a drug test, its not hard, they will get over and continue to get the assistance. A few states have already tried and the few people they did catch doing drugs and kicked off assistance was not worth all the money they spend on the actual drug tests and they stopped doing it anyway. Its unfortunate but its true. I would have gladly taken a drug test, and passed with flying colors, without manipulating it, to get a little bit of help paying my rent. But the only way things will change is if they change from the top and not with drug tests, with the way the whole program works and how much assistance they offer and how long they offer it for.

Sue, my thought exactly. I live a bit north of there, but am shocked by the ignorance, arrogance and open racism. I have stopped wondering what happened to TR and area. It's pretty clear - lack of education is what creates an urban cesspool.
Gina February 04, 2014 at 11:13 AM
Lol lack of education? I'm a hard working taxpayer.. And the idiot I know on state assistance doesn't even have their high school deploma and WE are all working to pay for him to smoke marijuana on his couch so he can go to an hour class a week and get his GED while collecting $400/month CASH, $450/month in food stamps, free healthcare, and living in a free apartment a block from the beach in seaside! Haha and you losers wanna call the people who also agree with me that it's DISGUSTING to see/hear about this ignorant and racist? I'm pretty sure NOTHING was racist about this. Color was not mentioned once. Maybe you're receiving free everything also and not giving a shit.. Lol GET A JOB AND MAYBE THIS COUNTRY WOULD BE IN A BETTER PLACE.
Mac February 04, 2014 at 11:19 AM
"lack of education is what creates an urban cesspool" - two centuries of Ocean County GOP leadership highlighted by the three musketeers of Ocean County: Gilmore, Ritacco and Vicari - this outcome was never in risk of failure

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!
brain1stmouth2nd February 04, 2014 at 01:28 PM
Gina, I’m sorry, that was not all about your post. I’ve been reading this patch for a while; there is a lot of racism, ignorance and hate here (TRP). Some pretty funny characters, too. I don’t know the politics or politicians there. TR used to be a nice place, clearly it’s changed. The only thing I get free is the air I breathe. Read your post again, you are presumptuous. And angry. Being a taxpayer doesn’t exempt us from ignorance and arrogance. You are right there is a problem, a big one. Drug-testing is not the answer. We need less Big Brother, not more. As you may (or not) notice lately, we are all being watched, recorded and tracked at an alarming rate. Drug-testing is just another invasion of our [quickly disappearing] privacy, liberty and freedom. It is a SLIPPERY SLOPE. Test everyone or just suspected users? Who assigns that qualifier? Who’s next – the driver on public roads, parent of a public school student? DO YOU SEE THE POTENTIAL? Voluntarily giving up freedoms eventually leads to involuntary loss of freedoms. Stopping fraud is easier said than done. Why don't you call the tip line if you know of so much fraud? Are they your friends? Frankly, being a tattletale isn't the answer, but if more people feared the consequences of fraud, they'd stop committing it. What’s worse is that fraudsters cheat the deserving needy more than anyone. More kids = ‘bigger paycheck’: WRONG. There are no increases for additional kids, not for +/- 25 years. However, the value of all assistance, means the 'assisted poor' are often far better off than many working poor, on that you are right. LET YOUR LEGISLATORS KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. Stop p&m here and write an intelligent letter to your state and federal reps. The first step toward reform should be to stop gifting benefits to most non-citizens (food stamps, welfare, housing, utility assistance). No other industrialized country forsakes its own for the benefit of others. FACT: non-citizens do not always have to meet the same ‘requirements’ as citizens for benefits. Second, business owners must stop hiring illegal residents. Employers save billions in taxes and profits, and disregard labor laws. That would free up jobs, force employers to pay a better wage, and start to reverse the mess we have now. How many restaurants and contractors hire non-citizens? Imagine the taxes lost on all that cash pay. Many states are no better - they give an ID card and a DL to illegals, for what? So they can get to work, vote, and even get public assistance or a mortgage. Stop giving and they’ll stop coming.
Gina February 04, 2014 at 06:09 PM
Thank you for clarifying! And I agree totally with what you're saying also. What I meant by more kids = bigger paycheck is for most people with government assistance - they are not married, yet keep having children so that "single mother status" can collect them more money per dependent. For example, I am a local business owner.. Just filed my taxes this year.. And I OWE the government $6500 even with one child I have cause I am Married and I "made too much money"... When in reality, I'm just trying to better my life and future to buy a house, raise my child, work hard and do the RIGHT thing. My bad I didn't LIE to the government like 70% of America collecting welfare and driving Escalades with Coach purses. It's disturbing. And in fact, I got $93 back as an income tax credit for my child. However, if I claimed I made a measly "$10,000 a year or LESS", I would have gotten back $3700 PER CHILD. It is very sad how the less you work, the more the government gives hand outs. That's really all it is - is a hand out. But if you wanna make something of yourself and set an example for your children in being a hard working individual, prepare to get raped by taxes and the government. The American dream is now a dream of maybe 20-30% of people. God help this country. We need a new president. Is it 2016 yet?

Anybody here who is going to say people are not popping out babies to increase their benefits and maintain their status on the system clearly has a blind eye turned. There is a simple solution outside of the drug testing. Unless you are truly disabled and unable to function in a work environment to do so, I say 18-24 months of assistance should be more then enough time to get back on your feet in some regards. And they need to rid the all or nothing mentality and offer partial benefits where it fits. BTW, anybody who has had the pleasure of sitting in these offices would know, you don't need a drug test or income statement to see who is working the system and who is in need. Crazy how the 6 bedroom, white brick faced home with marble floors and grand piano in the foyer in Lakewood was accepted for food stamps and weatherization services. hmmmmm????
Gina February 06, 2014 at 11:12 AM
Thanks Robert! Agreed totally. 18-24 months MAX should be good enough for ANYONE to get back on their feet and work to support the children they CHOSE to have! If you can't support YOUR children, STOP HAVING THEM!
