FEMA refuses to pay for items taken from Seaside Heights store after Hurricane Sandy
FEMA has denied the claim for reimbursement of the over $185,000 paid to the owner of the Seaside Heights Army Navy for items taken during the aftermath of SS Sandy. The Star Ledger reports that a November 8th letter states dates reported indicate the items were taken after the storm, not during the storm.
Excerpts from the FEMA letter as reported in 2/5/14 Star Ledger article - “Moreover, a review of surveillance footage at the Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Department shows flooding of no more than a couple of inches at the fire department, apparently at times of high tide, which rebuts the claim that ‘flooding of the fire hall’ created ‘a need for clothing’ distributed to emergency responders,” the letter reads. “In fact, the items appear to have been distributed in a manner other than as part of emergency response.”
