Help For Sandy Survivors

Sandy survivors with unmet needs have an opportunity to be heard and assisted by World Renew Disaster Response Teams.

The Long Term Recovery Group of Ocean County has enlisted World Renew Disaster Response Services to conduct community assessments of unmet needs throughout Ocean County. Through the World Renew team, Ocean County residents impacted by the super storm will be prioritized and the results will be given to the Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group, the OCLTRG, (www.oceancountyltrg.org ) for follow up.

World Renew is scheduled at six convenient walk in centers located in Manahawkin, Tuckerton, Lacey Township, Toms River, Brick, and Point Pleasant and residents can go to any of the locations. There is one more day at the Toms River and Lacey Township centers on Saturday, June 8,2013. The World Renew Team will then head to the sites in Manahawkin and Tuckerton for three days, and conclude the Ocean County assessments with three days in the Brick and Pt. Pleasant sites. Lighthouse Alliance Church and five local Elks Lodges have graciously donated the use of their facilities for the World Renew teams to meet and speak with residents.

The World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) is a national nonprofit organization based in Grand Rapids Michigan. Their mission is to respond to disaster situations throughout the U.S. and have done so for over 40 years. They have been assisting through out New Jersey and New York and recently completed services in Monmouth and Cape May Counties.

The Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group (Ocean County LTRG) was formed soon after Super Storm Sandy hit the Ocean County area. It consists of representatives from nonprofits, service agencies, faith based and government agencies, businesses, and other organizations. The mission is to provide recovery services to families and individuals impacted by the Super Storm Sandy and do so without respect to race, color, creed, gender, disability, or religious beliefs. The goal is to address and prioritize unmet needs and assist all residents in the recovery process.

IT IS IMPORTANT it is to get friends, neighbors, and anyone affected by storm Sandy to share their needs, and concerns with the World Renew Disaster Response Team. The results of the surveys and assessment will be CRUCIAL to substantiate the need to have Government and private agencies LOOSE the needed money and resources for our communities and families.  The result of the assessments will enable the Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group to actively assist many more residents with resources. Please contact and encourage all those in your field of influence to get to the walk in centers as soon as possible.
