1,000 Bags of Heroin Seized, Newark Man Arrested

Motor vehicle stop in Seaside Park leads to drug-related charges for Ibnballha Pitman, 34, of Newark

A Newark man was arrested and charged after police seized 1,000 bags of heroin in an investigation into drug activity in the Ocean County area, according to a news release from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Ibnballha Pitman, 34, of Newark was arrested on April 15 after a cooperative investigation into his alleged drug distribution activities.

Detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop on April 15 in which Pitman was the occupant of a 2001 White Honda Accord. The stop took place in the area of O Street and Central Avenue in Seaside Park.

The officers obtained and executed a search warrant for the car, ultimately seizing approximately 1,000 bags of heroin with the approximate street value of $5,000, the news release said.

Pitman was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin over one half ounce with intent to distribute.

He was transported to the Ocean County Jail with bail set at $175,000, with no 10 percent option.

Detective Christopher Bonner and Patrolman Thomas King of the Seaside Park Police Department conducted the investigation wit the assistance of the Prosecutor’s Special Operations Group and the Ocean County Sheriffs Department K-9 Unit.

Concerned Mom April 18, 2013 at 08:30 PM
Absolutely! ZERO tolerance for drugs!!!!
Jerzymom April 18, 2013 at 08:40 PM
I agree way to low. Maybe Ocean County doesn't know he was wanted either and on the run for years. At least since 2007. Somebody needs to alert them of this. That was just a drop in the dime bucket for him. Now where's his lab? Be careful Seaside I bet he's guys are already down here just waiting to make a move. Very Scary with all the guns and people killed lately.
WMS826 April 18, 2013 at 08:46 PM
You liberals want this stuff legalized...I bet 1st cav is on board with that from his other posts....maybe we should appologize to him, dust him off, and send him on his way with his heroin so we can tax it as you liberals argue.
WMS826 April 18, 2013 at 08:49 PM
Robert Yates...how much money have you been swindled out of in your life...No judgements....the cops may have planted it on him..is that what you think....or maybe we could let him off on a technical issues....its only dope...its only the reason for most crime....please protect the suspect while someones child dies a slow death each day.
WMS826 April 18, 2013 at 08:51 PM
The legal system is a joke because you keep voting Democrat Robert Yates.
WMS826 April 18, 2013 at 08:52 PM
Robert Yates....You are the reason for all this..you and your kind.
Robert Yates April 18, 2013 at 11:18 PM
WMS826: keep on getting your civics lessons from Sean Hannity and Bill OReilly. Pay attention to what I am saying. The Constitution should guide our politics, not idiotic democrats and stupid republicans. It is none of your business what anyone decides to injest unless it is your kid or nephew or neighbor. Mind your business and let freedom reign once again.
Amy April 18, 2013 at 11:25 PM
Why not...now our kids have a face to stay away from...If he didn't do anything wrong and they showed his face then that would be reckless...they found drugs on him, heroin, which our young are dying from (40 this year)!!
suz April 19, 2013 at 01:46 AM
What!!?? Of course it is my business and every one who is a citizen's business when people who don't obey the law steal and rob and kill for drugs. And that is just a tip of the ice burg.
none of yobusiness April 19, 2013 at 01:51 AM
If Mr Yates loves this guy so much, maybe this alleged scumbag drug dealer can move into his neighborhood when he makes bail.
none of yobusiness April 19, 2013 at 01:52 AM
Oh wait a minute he's not making bail :-)
WMS826 April 19, 2013 at 02:11 AM
Your side hates this country...dont tell me any different. You look each and every second to change the constitiution and take down any sense of pride and honor. Stop watch Rachel Maddow and MSNBC Mr. Liberal...your side has their own organ grinders.
WMS826 April 19, 2013 at 02:13 AM
Funny how Yates and the rest of the Democrats always poo poo you and turn it into YOUR stupid and beneath their elevated way of thinking....I
david April 19, 2013 at 05:00 AM
ok ppl, not to go elsewhere on your political debate, but ive been to prison, had a major heroin problem n yes, even there was a warrant, posting his case n picture will not give him a fair trial! doubt if it will even go to trial because ocean county is built to make you lose your mind eNews make a plea bargain as fast as you can to get out of that jail. and you think 1000 bags is a lot,its not so mr yates im with you and i study law and totally understand you.
david April 19, 2013 at 05:01 AM
damn, time to find a new connect!hahahaha
Michael Capo April 19, 2013 at 12:14 PM
Can anyone guess why they don't have a drug problem in Saudi Arabia?
Robert Yates April 19, 2013 at 03:51 PM
Saudi Arabia is an oppressive dictatorship where the ideas of personal freedom and the rule of law (as opposed to the rule of men) are nonexistent. They also happen to be one of the US's best allies. So much for caring about the spread of freedom and democracy.
Robert Yates April 19, 2013 at 04:09 PM
WMS826: let us be very clear here. You are advocating that the Constitution be violated, not me. The Constitution protects every alleged criminal's right to a fair jury trial. This has nothing to do with loving or feeling sorry for criminals. It has everything to do with due process and the rule of law. You are a partisan hack that is happy to see the constitution violated as long as it is the republicans doing it. I reject any violation whether it is done by democrats or republican; both parties of which have sold the document down the road a long time ago.
Andy Pat April 19, 2013 at 06:39 PM
I would not advocate full blown legalization of heroin. And I think few Americans (D,R, or I) would advocate for this, despite WMS826 claim that this is a partisan issue. But I do believe more and more Americans are coming to realize that the public policies that brought about the "War on Drugs" are misguided and ineffective. It is also very costly for the poor results we get. The medical community has long recognized addiction as a disease. I think if more resources were put into education and treatment as opposed to tossing them into our Criminal Justice system, we the taxpayers would be getting more bang for our buck. This "War on Drugs" has been about sucessful as America's experiment with alcohol prohibition.
Robert Yates April 19, 2013 at 08:04 PM
I agree with everything you have said, except for the suggestion that addiction is a disease. Diseases can not be willed away; addiction can. I am not saying it is easy or that there is no chemical/physical element, but ultimately it is a decision. It is an act of the will. All drugs should be legal. It is none of anyone's business (other than those directly and privately affected) what someone else does as long as they are not hurting others. And hurting others is already illegal, so we are already covered on that front. Drugs are a terrible thing, but so are many other things that we tolerate for the sake of freedom.. Prohibition has failed miserably and in any event the liberty interests outweigh prohibition.
Andy Pat April 19, 2013 at 09:00 PM
The initial choice to use drugs, tobacco or alcohol may be made by the individual. However, addiction for many is a slippery slope. Once the chemicals take hold in the brain, freewill starts to take a backseat to the physical and psychological. If these habits are begun in the teen years (when peer pressure can be greatest), as many do, they can be a lifetime of grief without external help. It is a shame that some people "choose" to have a lack of sympathy. I hope they are not parents.
Catsfin April 19, 2013 at 09:36 PM
Wut a bunch of uneducated racists. Get a life
mrbaw April 20, 2013 at 11:14 AM
Yates, you are an idiot.
mrbaw April 20, 2013 at 11:19 AM
We all have rights but, more so they privileges in the USA. If you choose to loose your privilege that is your choice. Freedom of choice is your right. What you choose to do with it is up to you. In this mans case, he will still be tried with respect to his crime.

Don't even drive through Seaside Park. They are pulling over EVERYONE and bragging about making money by giving everyone tickets. I have been pulled over every time I have gone there in the last 3 months which has been 4 times. Thank God there was nothing to give me a ticket for except I got a verbal warning for switching lanes too many times....It was twice since I had to get over to make a left. I would be pissed if my tax dollars were going to so many cops harassing people.
Jerzymom June 23, 2013 at 09:49 AM
WOW! @David they will never understand don't bother trying. They go political all the time. We know the truth.
