1,900 Heroin Bags Recovered Following Month-Long Investigation

A Toms River and Lakewood man each charged and held on $250,000 bail

A month-long investigation by two Toms River police units resulted in drug charges for two locals as 1,900 heroin bags, seven grams of crack cocaine and $2,300 in currency were recovered Wednesday night.

The police department's Special Enforcement Team and Emergency Services Unit conducted the investigation, leading to the arrests of Titus Calhoun, 29, of Walnut Street in Toms River and Jesse Jackson, 30, of Marin Luther King Drive in Lakewood, said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy. 

Each man was charged with possession with of heroin with intent to distribute, the chief said.

"The suspects were using various hotels in the Toms River area dealing narcotics," the chief said. The two men were arrested and charged Wednesday night at the Route 9 Ramada Inn where they were renting a room.  

Both Calhoun and Jackson are being held in the Ocean County Jail on $250,000 bail with no 10 percent option, according to Mastronardy.

"This investigation was initiated by the special investigation team after receiving information from various residents about suspicious activity," Mastronardy said. "The information proved valuable and was essential to the successes of this case."
