$25K of Jewelry Reported Stolen in Pleasant Plains Burglary

Toms River police also responded to a Tuesday night fire; no injuries were reported

Toms River police are investigating a burglary at a Pleasant Plains residence earlier this week during which over $25,000 worth of jewelry was taken while the home's occupants slept.

The jewelry was taken from a Dino Drive bedroom sometime Sunday night or Monday morning. An investigation showed that first floor window was pried open after the suspects used a chair from the yard for a boost, according to Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.

Toms River Police Department Officer Steve Austin is investigating along with Detective Chris Fluck of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, Mastronardy said.

No injuries were reported in a structure fire at a Green Island residence Tuesday night, Mastronardy said.

Officer David Bartoshek responded to the 6 Crane Way home at 8 p.m. after the homeowner was alerted to an upstairs bedroom fire by a smoke detector alarm. Residents tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher but were unsuccessful, according to the chief.

Fire companies from Toms River, Pleasant Plains and Silverton arrived at the home and extinguished the blaze, Mastronardy said.

The fire is under investigation by Detectives James Magovern and Thomas Dimichele and the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, the chief said.
