Police Blotter: Air Conditioners Ripped From Businesses

Police reports as released by Chief Michael Mastronardy:

Toms River police are investigating the theft of three commercial air conditioning units over the weekend. Corporal Kevin O’Melia is investigating the $15,000 theft where unknown persons removed the cooper and aluminum from the units that were located at the rear of a building at 325 West Water Street.

Last winter, thefts of were reported from vacant summer homes in the East Dover section of Toms River. In the most recent incidents, commercial units were stolen.

Target Says Man Tried to Steal 34 CDs From Store

Police responded to Target on Hooper Avenue after reports from store security that a customer was allegedly shoplifting 34 CDs, placing them in his backback.

The incident was 6 p.m. Tuesday, after the store's loss prevention officers approached the customer they believed was shoplifting.

"When he was approached by loss prevention officers he began to assault the security officers which resulted in the robbery charges," Mastronardy said.

Officer Michale Cassidy arrested 20 year-old Jesse Sauer, of Dayton Avenue, on charges of robbery.  Sauer was placed in Ocean County Jail on $50,000 bail no 10 percent.

Hit and Run Suspect Being Saught

On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. police resonded to a hit and run accident at Hooper and Indian Hill Road.  A 55 year old Seaside Park woman was in a 2012 Chevy northbound on Hooper Avenue when her vehicle was struck in the rear by another northbound vehicle.

The victim was transported by Toms River Police EMS to Community Medical Center with minor injuries.

The unknown vehicle left the scene, driving northbound on Hooper.  Anyone with information can conatct Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall at 732-349-0150.
